The beauty of the botanical garden.

During our escapade through Kraków, we found ourselves in a most delightful place: the Botanic Garden of The Jagiellonian University. The ground spread far and wide but we consider the time spent there to be well-invested. Our senses were exposed to all kinds of stimuli from the very entrance. Various flowers grew in clearly designated areas and filled the air with a myriad of scents.

The auditory experiences were another part of that unforgettable stroll. The harmonious buzzing of pollinators accompanied us throughout the walk. Although it was pleasant, it was still incomparable to what we witnessed in the palm house. Fortune was on our side as we were able to witness an extratropical, jungle drizzle. Admiring the sunlight through the iridescent curtain of rain, we listened to the susurration of water.

Cleverly placed plaques that contained information regarding the species of the lush vegetation weren’t the only sources of knowledge as sporadically one could find a tactile board that contained the harmless and tangible representations of several plants. Some of them (like these cacti) may seem inviting, but it is advised to choose the non-organic version.

The climate that was replicated in various greenhouses presented another bodily sensation. The hot and humid environments that held the tropical flora as well as the arid and scorching conservatories that sustained the xerophiles were surprisingly refreshing experiences after treading the twisting trails. Moreover, the enclosed space seemingly transported us into far and foreign regions, inaccessible to the average student’s budget.

Having said that, it is important to acknowledge the approachability of the object. The prices are far from exorbitant. Additionally, almost all of the places can be accessed by people with impaired mobility.

From mundane plants to exotic specimens, all can be found in the Botanic Garden of Jagiellonian University.
