Flowers, flowers every where, nor any one to pick - this playful paraphrase of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s lines accompanied us through our journey to Wawel Hill.
Blooming flowers invited us to take some of them home, but as responsible tourists, we dared not bring ourselves to violate the rules in this way. It was best to admire them there, on Wawel Hill, such a historically significant and stunning place. Despite the many tourists in this location, we managed to find quiet spots to take pictures and contemplate the beauty of nature interspersed with historic buildings.
The hill seemed to us like a tomb of the ancient magnificent past and the multitude of flowers as a decoration and tribute to the kings lying in the Wawel catacombs. How beautifully the flowers bloom and how tirelessly they are tended by the gardeners show that this history is still alive and attracts the attention of tourists who still want to discover it.
